LEEDS CASTLE

This is a beautiful castle in Kent - about 35 minutes from our home. We got free tickets from Brother and Sister Hall in our Ward. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have gone. We are glad we did. We learned that the castle was originally built for defense, but soon just became a palace for nobles and later for the wives of kings. This was the gift that the King would give his wife - something that Sofronia has especially taken note of. She expects nothing less from her husband. Currently, the castle looks most like it did when it was owned by a rich American woman.

We actually enjoyed the maze and the grounds a lot more. The gardens are beautiful and there are lots of swans and ducks. There was a falconry display. You might be able to find one picture where all of the kids are sitting in a line and a huge owl is flying right over their heads. The wing of the owl actually touched Inessa’s head.

We went to the maze twice and got lost both times. It was hard to find your way. You are always sure that you have found a new path that will probably take you out only to discover yourself back where you were. Luckily, you only have to find your way to the center of the maze and then you can go into a cave to get out.

You might see a few pictures of us jumping. Our friends the Beans did this while they were visiting us from New Jersey. We’ve adopted their tradition.
