Just a note to say the vacation rental agreement has been signed and a down payment has been made. The final decision was to take the Shasta/Redding rental during the last week of "off-season" time (i.e. June 7-14).
The rental can be seen here and here. Thanks to everybody for your input; it made the choosing much easier. I hope that it'll be a great vacation.
I will likely do much of the day-to-day planning sometime next month. If you have particular activities that you want to work into the family schedule, let me know. I'm particularly interested in how people would like to partition structured activity time (like the plastic straw egg-drop and family sing-in in NC) with unstructured activity time (reading lazily by the pool). Feel free to send thoughts/suggestions to me at the familyjones gmail address.
