A Corner of Madrid

Elder Scott Zimmerman, one of the temple missionaries, planned an excursion to a pottery fair in mid-May.  He and his wife invited everyone to join them.  We, the Riggs (a new missionary couple with Employment Services), the Lopez (a new temple missionary couple from elsewhere in Spain), Sister Lopez (a single sister) and Sister Tenney (wife of the Temple President) took them up on it.

Elder Riggs had been a mission companion to Elder Zimmerman, and they enjoyed renewing their acquaintance.

We went to a pottery fair with about 20 booths in it, and did a lot of looking, but no buying.

Next we walked up a narrow little street that looked like Madrid's version of SoHo, lined with artsy shops;
\

visited a small park in honor of citizens who had aided the Spanish army in fighting against Napoleon;

and in the late afternoon came out on a broad boulevard with nice restaurants, department stores and shops, including a pastry shop where we bought a delicious whole-wheat croissant before riding home on the subway.

On the way home from the subway stop, Sisters Tenney and Lopez posed for a photo under a rose arbor leading to a little playground just a few yards from the Temple grounds.

None of us had ever been to that quarter of town before, and it was very enjoyable.
